IBMA collaborates in the development of the CABI Biosafety Portal and in the shared mission of greater «green diplomacy»

The International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association (IBMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CABI to assist in the development of the CABI BioProtection Portal and a shared mission towards greater «green diplomacy». This portal is the ground-breaking information resource that helps growers and agricultural advisors to identify, source and correctly apply bioprotection products against problematic pests in their crops.

Our portal supports EU countries to align with the new EU «Green Deal» and «Farm to Fork» strategy by demonstrating that they are making efforts to ensure that information about their registered biocontrol solutions is readily available.

Jennifer Lewis, IBMA Executive Director underlines: «This is not only important for promoting more sustainable agricultural practices nationally, but it also has international relevance as other countries can use the portal to seek information about alternative products registered elsewhere. This will significantly aid the transition to agroecological farming practices using biological alternatives in IPM programmes».

Executive Director, Global Operations at CABI, Dr Ulrich Kuhlmann, said, «We’re delighted to welcome IBMA as an Associate of the CABI BioProtection Portal and look forward to working with them on our shared goals of promoting crop pest and disease solutions which enhance biodiversity, soil health and sustainability».

“Including EU countries, alongside low to middle income countries on the portal, means that they will be able to showcase the alternative products that are available to their own growers and, in doing so, provide a good model for other countries so as to encourage uptake of more sustainable agricultural practices in those countries too».

The CABI BioProtection Portal aims to be the go-to information resource for those looking to identify and source bioprotection products – helping growers wanting to replace chemical pesticides with natural, non-chemical pest control.

Jennifer Lewis, Executive Director of IBMA, said, «IBMA represents the biocontrol industry with over 220-member companies globally. We are pleased to be working in collaboration with the CABI BioProtection Portal to help farmers source biological and more environmentally friendly products as part of their Integrated Pest Management plans».

International stakeholders (e.g. European supermarkets, European based certification boards, etc.), who need to know the regulatory status and availability of various biological control solutions will also find value in the portal as it means they only need to look in one place for the information they require rather than going to multiple national sites.
